I decided to call it an essay what became a kind of watershed exercise in my experience with Photography. Without me being fully aware during the process, this brief experience presented here proved to be the confirmation of a path I started walking years ago with my travel photographs. From here, I could identify a common purpose in my photos: clicks that sought to document the details of a situation of public interest, aware of its role as an agent of social change.
ESSAY - COVID 19 In March 2020, Covid 19 hit as a tsunami the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where I was working. Sudden adaptations and changes on the unit. A continuous flow of patients coming through the doors to be put to sleep and on a breathing machine as soon as possible. New rules every day.
Facing a moment we all knew it’d go down in History and guided by my passion for photography I soon decided to start documenting this Pandemic from a place not many had access to. I believe this kind of documentation is a powerful media to provide public awareness of the reality of hospitals in a pandemic context. A reality that without images perhaps nobody would ever believe.
